We have all had that day. You had an extremely long day at work, traffic on your way home has been terrible, and all you want to do is get home and relax on the couch. But you notice that your gas light is activated, indicating that it is time to stop and fill up. After the day you’ve had, that is the last thing you want to do, so you decide to head the rest of the way home and deal with it in the morning. But is this a good idea? Is it good for your car? The answer to both is no, and here is why:
You Will Eventually Run Out Of Gas
This is kind of a no-brainer – if you drive a car for long enough without filling it with gas, it will eventually run out and stall. At that point, you’ll either need to call a tow truck or put on your walking shoes and march to the nearest service station, gas can in hand. Neither is all that attractive of an option, so to avoid this, simply gas up when your car needs it.
Your Car Was Built To Contain Gas
Your car’s fuel pump is designed to be submerged in gasoline, so when you drive on empty, it can lead to fuel pump misfires and eventually malfunction. Any auto repair technician will tell you that this repair or replacement is going to be expensive, so do your car’s fuel line a favor and keep a quarter of a tank of gas in it at all times.
Make An Appointment
If you are a chronic “drive on empty” person and you suspect that you’ve done damage to your fuel line over the years, make an appointment with us, and we will inspect your vehicle for any damage you may have done. In the meantime, though, just make sure you fill up when it is time. Protect your vehicle and never risk running out of gas.
